How to Host a Glow in the Dark Egg Hunt for Kids at Easter: A Unique and Affordable Experience

I love a good egg hunt for little kids. A glow in the dark takes it to the next level, and it's so fun!  Why not try a glow in the dark Easter egg hunt? It's fun for kids, but perfect for parents wanting a cocktail while they're kids look for eggs! Seriously though, it's a really fun twist to your typical Easter celebrations. This creative activity is sure to impress kids of all ages. The best part? It's incredibly easy and affordable to set up!

Where is it best to host a glow in the dark egg hunt?

Inside or outside is perfectly fine! If you're in a colder climate like me, hosting the egg hunt indoors is ideal. Plus, if you're inside, you're not weather dependent at all. I have little kids (5 and under) so I chose to set up our egg hunt on the first floor in the living room and family room. If you have older kids, you may want to sprinkle them throughout the house to make it even more fun. The excitement of searching for glowing treasures adds an extra level of thrill to the hunt.

What do you need to host a glow in the dark egg hunt?

You don't need to break the bank to host a glow in the dark Easter egg hunt. In fact, I managed to purchase all the supplies for just $20! Here's what you'll need:

shop the post

Pastel Eggs

Pastel eggs are best for a glow in the dark egg hunt so the glow sticks can really shine. These eggs are one-day delivery and under $10!

Mini Glow Sticks

These are hands down the best deal on Amazon. They deliver in 1-day, there’s 200 mini glow sticks and the price is nearly under $20. If you are hosting a glow in the dark egg hunt, buy these for sure!

Non-Candy Egg Fillers

These are by far my favorite non-candy egg filler. They’re fun surprises that can be a great for a family day or on their own.

*Opt for pastel eggs if you can. The first pack I bought had some dark easter eggs, and while you can see the glow stick, it is harder to see. Pastel colored eggs would be perfect.

How do you set up a glow in the dark egg hunt?

Assembling the glow in the dark eggs is simple. Crack open the glow sticks and activate them, then place one or two inside each plastic egg. I put one treat in each egg with the glow stick so the kids were excited to open them. Just remember, cracking open the glow sticks can be a bit time-consuming, so get some help if you're making a large number of eggs. I was able to make 60 eggs in about 20 minutes, but I will say my fingers were sore from cracking the mini glow sticks.

Here are my go to egg fillers.

Don't forget to take safety precautions

If you're hosting the egg hunt outdoors, it's essential to follow proper safety considerations. Ensure the area is has some light or is contained in a backyard. You want it to be free from any hazards that could cause accidents in the dark.

How long does the glow in the dark egg hunt last?

The egg hunt itself goes by in a flash! I found that around 20 eggs per child kept the excitement high without overwhelming them. With 60 eggs, our hunt lasted about 5 minutes, making it the perfect activity to keep kids entertained during Easter festivities.

Who do you invite to a glow in the dark egg hunt?

The more, the merrier! Invite friends, family, and neighbors to join in on the fun. Just be sure to have extra hands available to help fill the eggs and supervise the hunt.

The joy and excitement on the kids' faces as they discover the glowing treasures are truly priceless. My own children loved the experience so much that my daughter even whispered to me that I was better than the Easter bunny!

Hosting a glow in the dark Easter egg hunt its so much better than your average Easter egg hunt. With a few simple supplies and a little creativity, you can create an unforgettable experience for your children and their friends. So why not give it a try this Easter? Your kids will thank you for it!
